Zine Library

What are Zines?

They are a form of DIY publishing, allowing creators to express themselves outside of traditional media channels.
Zines have a long history, with roots in the early 20th century and a resurgence in the 1970s and 80s, particularly within punk and alternative culture.

As we know, ICE is more common than ever. One of the common concerns is shopping, medical appointments, and other everyday tasks in public.
A group of people willing to help our immigrant neighbors.
We have available personnel located in Staunton, Waynesboro, Augusta County, Harrisonburg, Grottoes, Stuarts Draft, and Charlottesville.

What is the process?

1) Please first contact Luna for help making your shopping list. Many of the people willing to deliver groceries don't go to the ethnic stores we visit and might not be familiar with all the products.
2) Luna will come to your home and sit down with you to make the list and discuss the cost of all the groceries. Try to set aside at least 30 minutes to an hour to get organized.
3) Then, you will give Luna the funds for the first shopping trip and specify a date and time that works for the volunteer to deliver the groceries.

Delivery day

On the day of the delivery, the volunteer will receive your home address. They will receive the groceries and deliver them to your home. Please make sure you are home to receive them. If your purchases are similar the following week or every two weeks, give the next batch of funds to the volunteer so they can go directly to the store and deliver them again for the next delivery.
Although it is not mandatory, if possible, you can tip the volunteer for the gas and time spent. We are coordinating delivery volunteers to drive in the same cities where you live.

Are you going to a food pantry?

Please indicate which food pantry you attend so Luna can speak with the manager and find out what their process is during this time with immigration.
We need to know the location and hours of the food pantry. Your name is not required for questions until we decide to change your information so you can continue receiving your food.

About Us & How to Volunteer!

First of all I want everyone to know. This is NOT an organization or non profit. This was started to help educate people on their rights and over time, community members wanted to help each other and help our immigrant neighbors.

During the current political climate, I have seen locally we did not have much of a grassroot organization helping out immigrant neighbors. The white community being very separate from the people of color and more so with immigrants.I believe education is the foundation to power. We wanted to help educate others on what is currently going on with immigrants in our country and specifically in our neighborhood. I had wanted to help bridge the gap between communities and find ways to share gathered resources. But after a few weeks of this, people wanted to do more. We now are starting to do grocery runs for immigrants. This includes residents and US citizens who don't feel safe going outside.

Want to Volunteer/ Help in your own way?

So we primarily communicate through Signal Chat. It would be preferable if you can add the app but if you are not able to, I also use proton mail.
My Signal is lunabruja.96
Email is [email protected]
To join the group chat we need to either meet one on one or you can come join one of our biweekly meetings.

Not in The areas posted city/county wise? Here's tips on how to start your own!

So something you will see is that all the towns are 30-45 minutes away from a smaller town I live in. My vehicle is old so its all I trust 😅😅😅 But if you don't have that restriction, a lot can be done! Below are some tips on things Ive used or done to help start this!

  • Carrd.co ----- Cheap & Simple Site to keep all info, resources, flyers and such together. This one I use is $9 per year for 3 websites

  • Signal App ---- This is the app being used most to communicate and suppose to be more secure than other chat apps.

  • Mewe ----- This is an app similar to Facebook but is decentralized like Bluesky. It would be a good way multiple groups could communicate. FB is hard with how many racists, fascists and bigots are on there.

  • Proton ----- Proton Mail & Proton Drive are a secure, privacy-focused email service and Drive based in Switzerland that uses end-to-end encryption and zero-access encryption to protect user communications.

  • Cash ----- With how much the government wants away from it, cash leaves less of a paper trail. Also for those who haven't seen, Cashapp and Venmo have it where if you get more than a certain amount a year, you get taxed. So cash is better.

  • Zines ----- Zines are small, independently published magazines that can essentially have a front cover, 6 pages and a back cover or it be a 7th page. I have personally seen how quick, efficient they are and how easy they are to pass around. Also good on the wallet at about 25 cents each if you go to places like staples to print or can be much cheaper if you print at home.

  • If you make a zine I can add it to the Zine Library.
